ABR P Pop-Up Boilies
Marukyu has developed what it believes is the world’s first environmentally friendly fish safe pop up boilie.
The pop-up, a simple concept – a boilie that floats, has been on the market for years. But Marukyu’s, as you would expect, are different.
“Most pop-ups use melanine, cork or other inedible substances to make them float,” says Tim Hodges, Marukyu’s leading carp consultant.
“But these are different – they are real food.”
The boilies, of which there are three flavours, are based around three of Marukyu’s famous ingredients: Nori (marine algae and seaweed), Ichigo (strawberry) and Sanagi (silkworm chrysalis). They are available as 15mm baits.
“The difference is,” says Tim, “that fish actually want to eat them.
“With many of the existing baits, the fish suck them in, realise they are not food, and blow them out. Yes you hook a few fish that way because of the hooking ability of our rigs. But its not ideal, its far better to be using a bait that fish actually eat.”
Observant readers will be wondering why there are no fluorescent baits in the range – something that Tim is quick to counter!
“There are two reasons for this. The first is that Marukyu will never put anything into the baits that could be construed as an industrial dye – that is a total no no.
“But secondly, as these are real baits that taste and smell just like our other baits, you don’t need thgem. They attract fish from large distances. You don’t need a highly visual bait when the fish want to eat it anyway.”
The baits are designed to be buoyant enough to pop-up off the bottom lifting your rig. Tests have shown no waterlogging after periods of 24 hours.
Tim continues: “Marukyu’s scientifically developed line of boilies comes as close as possible to mimicking the carp’s natural diet.
The range allows a varied and tactical approach to carp fishing for the entire year. Using the same baits all the time is going to be a disadvantage. But with Marukyu, you have greater options.”
Many of the baits and boilies sold in the UK have been developed and refined from a limited number of templates. Many share similar characteristics and, sometimes, the same ingredients. This can prove to be a problem when they are used because – especially on pressurised venues – fish learn to associate their characteristics with danger. This can be a smell, a taste, a colour or a consistency, but the outcome is the same – fish will avoid or ignore.
EFG130 Low Temperature Super Groundbait
Nori (Seaweed) based bait that attracts all species of coarse fish. It’s a finer texture than the well-known EFG131 version and with increased Nori and Krill to make the bait more attractive but less filling. Use it at water temperatures down to 6 degrees.
EFG161 Low Temperature Carp Groundbait
This is a completely different bait to the other Marukyu groundbaits. It is based on a Japanese bait called TENKAMUSO which is one of the most famous carp baits in Asia. It is designed to appeal to CARP and is sure to do very well on UK commercial fisheries. Another very important point is that it works really well with a method mould, something which most of the other Marukyu groundbaits aren’t awfully good at.
JPz
The new bait that’s finding a lot of fans here in the UK. Marukyu JPz are a jelly pellet with a difference. Try a pot…you will not be disappointed !
Marukyu ABR Boilies
Marukyu ABR (Advanced Boilie Recipe) boilies are available in six flavours and a variety of sizes. Many of the baits and boilies sold in the UK have been developed and refined from a limited number of templates. Many share similar characteristics and, sometimes, the same ingredients. This can prove to be a problem when they are used because – especially on pressurised venues – fish learn to associate their characteristics with danger. This can be a smell, a taste, a colour or a consistency, but the outcome is the same – fish will avoid or ignore these baits.
A-Rated Baits
A is for attraction, and all Marukyu baits are formulated to be A-rated. Attraction is the essential feature of any great bait. Scientific research has shown that there are many substances that fish can detect through their sense of smell. Some are highly attractive and others are repellent, whereas some elicit little or no response from fish. In order for a fish to smell a bait, the odour it emits must be soluble in water. On their own, most oils have little or no solubility in water, and they are not major olfactory attractants to fish. Oil may ‘bleed’ from a bait, rising to the water surface, and this upward movement can invoke interest by fish to investigate further. And when a bait is eaten, fish can certainly taste oils that are present. But it is a fallacy to believe that fish can actually smell oils to any meaningful extent.

Marukyu AFP300 Paste
AFP300 is a fruit flavoured, UK version of the world famous Marukyu Peri Glu
This is a gluten based paste, unlike anything that we use here in the UK. All of Marukyu GLUTEN baits have simple to understand mixing instructions on the back of the package. For best results mix very gently one to one with water until the water has spread evenly throughout the bait and there are no dry patches left. Try to limit the amount of time mixing the bait to the bare minimum. Once the water is spread evenly, let the bait sit for 3-4 minutes. Then just before use flip it over and take bait from the side that was on the bottom.
When baiting GLUTEN, generally it is best to bait the hook by pulling the hook through the bottom of the bait. Doing so will avoid breaking the GLUTEN threads which are very important to keep the bait on the hook. GLUTEN bait expands in the water making it very light yet strong bait. Due to the expansion of the bait, you do not need to put much on the hook. Generally place enough bait so as to just cover the hook. This bait is definitely going to take a bit of getting used to and I’m sure that we’ll see some new and innovative ways to use this particular substance.
A truly multi species bait, but outstanding for all types of carp.
Marukyu AFP310 Paste
AFP310 is very similar to AFP 300 the difference is that this version has a seafood flavour that is particularly aimed at all species of Carp including F1s, Bream and Tench.
Fish love this very easy to use paste bait; mix one to one with water as per the instructions on the packet. It goes a long way so only mix what you think you will require. Remember you can produce an identical mix within 5 minutes.
Marukyu EFG100 / EFG101 Groundbait
These groundbaits are packed with marine proteins that all fishes in the carp family just love. They provide incredibly fast flavour release and multiple ingredients will attract the wariest of fish. Perfect on high-pressured waters. Number of main ingredients 12
Marukyu EFG120 / EFG121 Groundbait
Both groundbaits are packed with marine proteins, with the addition of Nori (seaweed) that is highly attractive to coarse fish. The groundbaits have incredibly fast flavour release and multiple ingredients will attract the wariest of fish. Nori is proving to be outstanding at attracting all cyprinids including F1’s plus bream and tench. Number of main ingredients 13.
Marukyu EFG131 Super Groundbait
EFG131 is a groundbait that looks different to almost every bait available in the UK. Moreover, it works in a different way as well. It contains 23 ingredients and is packed with animal and fish-based proteins, plus Nori.
The bait works by attracting fish from the moment it hits the water, and it has proved itself as an exceptional all temperature bait which is especially good under cold-water conditions. It appeals to a wide range of coarse species, including all carp variants, bream and tench
Marukyu EFG140 Super Groundbait
EFG140 is Marukyu’s most complex bait, containing 57 main ingredients, including Tanishi (water snails). It is also highly versatile. When mixed with water at the recommended ratio of 2-1, it is very sticky with a slow breakdown speed. However, mix at a 3-1 ratio and it becomes an explosive mixture, and at 1-1 it can be made into a paste that is perfect when fishing the very soft paste formulas so popular with top match anglers.
Marukyu EFG142 Super Groundbait
EFG142 contains an incredible 59 main ingredients, including Tanishi pellets. This makes it an excellent big fish bait, attracting the most wary of fish.
This groundbait is very versatile. Mixed at a ratio of 4-1 it is extremely active. With more water the bait becomes stickier with a slower breakdown time.
Like all Marukyu baits there is no need to riddle EFG 142. Indeed, it would be pointless to do so as, in this case, riddling would remove the compressed Tanishi!
Marukyu EFG150 Super Groundbait
EFG 150 is a very special groundbait that UK fish have never seen before. Although it contains 23 main ingredients plus loads of amino acids guaranteed to excite all coarse fish, it is also low in protein and not as filling as other baits. EFG 150 works well for tench and bream, and it is possibly the best F1 carp bait we have seen in the UK.
Marukyu EFG151 Super Groundbait
EFG 151 is similar to EFG 150 but with medium sized particles that excites the fish in your swim. This is an all-temperature bait which works exceptionally well at low water temperatures. The addition of Nori makes it a great all species bait.
Marukyu Liquid Sanagi
Marukyu has been specialising in silkworm chrysalis baits for many years.
In Japanese they are know as SANAGI. Marukyu is famous in Japan for its high quality SANAGI baits. Almost all of Marukyu’s baits include a certain amount of silkworm chrysalis.
Marukyu has developed many individual different types of silkworm chrysalis baits for a wide range of situations. They can be used individually or also used as a secret ingredient in your own special mixes.
SANAGI work great as bait because of their high protein content, and their distinctive smell. Fish are naturally attracted to high protein sources, and the smell of silkworm chrysalis also holds a special attraction to them.
Great for both saltwater and freshwater fishing. SANAGI has an amazing attractant effect on Cyprinids (carp family).
Take two additives that have been scientifically proven to be highly attractive to coarse fish, carefully formulate them into baits and groundbaits, then bring them half way around the world to the UK. That’s the huge edge that tanishi and sanagi will bring to anglers who use them.
On lightly-stocked venues, the feeding triggers they release will draw fish away from natural food; on pressurised venues, these triggers will over-ride the caution with which fish approach potential food; and because the smell and taste of both natural ingredients is complex, they will not ‘blow’ and become ineffective in the way that unsophisticated baits laced with artificial flavours can do.
There are two Sanagi Liquid additives as follows :
Marukyu SFA420 contains Crayfish & Sanagi Extracts
Marukyu SFA430 contains concentrated Sanagi Extracts
N.B. Marukyu are waiting for a new delivery of SFA430. It is supposed to arrive during December.
Marukyu Powdered Sanagi
Marukyu SFA440 & SFA441 are products exclusive in this form to Marukyu. They produce this exclusive formula Sanagi in two grain sizes.
The finer grade SFA440 is perfect for adding to all EFG groundbaits and any particle bait. Coating meat and casters is very popular.
A small amount will further enhance any paste bait and will give it a faster breakdown speed.
The coarser grain SFA441 is perfect for incorporation into boilies and any spod mix especially where big carp are the target.
Sanagi is environmentally safe and in this highly concentrated form can be added to any bait. The very high protein and associated smell and taste are a top class fish attracter. A brilliant additive in boilies and pastes. Can be used instead or in conjunction with fishmeal.
Marukyu SDP Feed Pellets
SDP Feed Pellets are scientifically designed pellets rather than aquaculture pellets that are more normally marketed as coarse fishing pellets. They have been specially formulated for coarse fish.
The pellets are available in two flavours and four different sizes. The Ocean flavoured variety has 12 main ingredients whereas the Marine flavoured ones have 13 main ingredients with additional sea weed.
The Marukyu scientists decided that the best pellets for catching fish were those made with the Dry Pellet method.
Almost all Aquaculture pellets that are made for feeding fish are made by the Extrusion method that involves a heating process.
Marukyu scientists believe that a cold manufactured pellet has many advantages.
The speed of releasing the attractants is very important along with breakdown speed; our pellets are extremely fast working.
Size for size they are heavier which gives them distinct advantages.
An important point to remember is that what is good for aquaculture is not necessarily good for fishing.
Marukyu SDP Softies
SDP2310 10mm “SOFTIES” Nori (Seaweed) Formula
SDP2210 10mm “SOFTIES” Protein Formula
Marukyu soft pellets have proven to be brilliant quality fish baits.
• Will split into any size or shape
• Perfect to fish on a hair rig
• Perfect for hooking straight on the hook
• Extremely fast multi-flavour release
• Two secret formulas
Many of the traditional baits and groundbaits sold in the UK have been developed and refined from a limited number of recipes.
Marukyu SFA400 Ground Krill
Marukyu SFA400 Ground Krill is a combination of several ingredients specially processed by Marukyu. It is one of the best bait additives that money can buy, full of amino acids and scientifically balanced proteins. Ground Krill is great for fish health and will mix with any bait increasing its attraction powers. The fine grade of the product will enhance any bait, including paste and boilies.
It is a proven attractor for all members of the carp family and being a totally natural ingredient you can use as much or as little as you like in your baits. The attractants are water soluble and work immediately once they are in contact with the water.
Krill meal is known to be an excellent carp bait ingredient that will undoubtedly also help catch other coarse fish. It has a distinctive smell and characteristic pink colour, a consequence of the carotenoid pigments it contains. Krill meal is extremely attractive to fish and highly nutritious, containing a broad range of minerals and vitamins. It is also high in protein and rich in omega-3 oils.
Even a small amount of krill meal can transform a good bait into a great one.
Marukyu SFA410 Liquid Krill
Marukyu SFA410 LIQUID KRILL is an extremely effective concentrated krill extract treated with Marukyu’s unique Bio-fermentation process successfully increasing the amount of free amino acids. Incredibly convenient it keeps at room temperature. Simply mix a small amount into your favourite bait to increase its nutritional value and power.
